Tour Description
With accommodation pickups for Inner CBD hotels, or the option of meeting at Pier 4, Barrack St Jetty for an 8:30 am departure, we cruise on a ferry designed specifically to travel between the mainland and Rottnest Island you feel just as relaxed and confirmatble on the Swan River as you are on the ocean crossing to Rottnest Island.
Once you reach Rottnest Island, you collect your bike as you leave the ferry, and set off to explore at a leisurely pace.If you've chosen to add snorkelling gear hire to you booking (add-on in booking form) you'll also collect that before setting off. The calm, quiet atmosphere makes bicycling the perfect method of exploration.
You might want to visit the Information Centre on the island for some handy infomation and maps before you set off on your self guided tour of the island. There are plenty of interesteing places to visit. Tour the main settlement which contains a lot of history of the island, as well as beng the best place to purchase supplies for th day, or to come back to seek out a great option for lunch. Trundle along some of the many cycle ways to visit some of the off-the-beaten-track coves and beaches that ring the island.
If you've hired some snorkel gear, you can take advantage of seeing the island's amazing underwater sites, full of myriad fish species and other sea life. We recommend the Parker Point Promontory, Kitson Point, the West End or North Point; however, with plenty of thriving limestone coral reefs, shipwrecks, crystal clear waters and calm bays, you're certain to find the ideal snorkelling location at one of the 63 gorgeous beaches encircling the island.
Besides snorkelling, there's just so much to do on 'Rottie'. You can explore the island's historical areas and learn about the fascinating residents that once dwelled here. Discover the stories behind the island at Rottnest Museum, visit popular areas, such as Lomas Cottage, the Pilot Boat House and Oliver Hill. Take a stroll along the boardwalk at West End and admire the huge diversity of flora and fauna. See how many resident quokkas you can spot and do some bird watching as the islands is designated as an 'Important Bird Area'.
If you're feeling less adventurous, why not just enjoy a quiet picnic surrounded by natural beauty. Perhaps throw in a fishing line and catch lunch yourself or just laze around on the beach, jumping into the glassy turquoise water when you've had enough of warming yourself in the sun. Whatever you choose, you're bound to love it!
After you've had your fill of this spectacular island (if that's even possible), just head back to the ferry, return your bike and other hire equipment, and you'll be returned to the mainland, arriving at Barrack Street Jetty by 6:45pm.
